In the course of my week I chat to lots of couples and it very clear that many wish sustainability to be at the heart of their wedding. Middleton Lodge in North Yorkshire is a family estate run by James and Rebecca and their professional and friendly team. James grew up on the estate and is very conscious of preserving it for future generations (not least his beautiful little girls). The whole ethos of what he is trying to achieve is based on Eco practises - from their beautiful natural gardens and fig house - yes real figs adorn the walls in late Summer - even peaches in other parts of the estate, together with an 'Estate to Plate' menu with vegetables grown in the nearby kitchen garden and locally sourced lamb from his brothers farm, as well as offering delicious vegan and vegetarian food. Plastic water bottle are a definate no no - spring water is bottled at source on the estate using reusable glass bottles - it is filtered through the nearby chalk hills and is packed with minerals (it tastes wonderful!) All of the water used for showers etc comes from a borehole on the estate. James is constantly evaluating their green credentials and using latest technologies, you can be safe in the knowledge that the environment is being preserved - ensuring many more 'Happy Ever Afters!' Further info on their sustainability programme visit www.middletonlodge.co.uk. - or better still pay a visit and have lunch or dinner, stay the night, relax, breathe in the country air - and enjoy this most beautiful place.
